Instead of demolishing or renovating it, the new owners of this early 20th century house in the centre of Dobrich turned it into a contemporary home. A major goal of the retrofit was to achieve maximum functionality with minimum change in the existing structure of the building.

The task was challenging, since the building shared a blind-wall with a neighbor’s house, along with the slopes of the roof. We transformed the roof and opened up new large windows which created a spacious and well-lit attic space for the children to play. The roof structure is visible from the inside, and the interior works perfectly with this solution. With the addition of eaves, wooden elements and new windows with custom designed joinery, the house took on a completely new look.

The living room and the parents’ area are located on the ground floor, and thanks to the new architectural solution, adults and children have a separate personal space. By sensible remodelling of an existing wall, we connected two small rooms into a spacious common living space, which opened up to the courtyard with new big French windows. Almost all design solutions in the making of the furniture are custom-made by us.
